Lugarawa Health Training Institute is owned by Roman Catholic Diocese of Njombe. It was established in 1998.

Lugarawa Health Training Institute offers three years nursing and midwifery, pharmaceutical science, and medical laboratory sciences courses both leading to an award of certificate and diploma (NTA level 4, 5 & 6) under the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE).

Successful completion of two years in Nursing and midwifery, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences programmes lead into an award of Technician Certificate whereas successful completion of three years in Nursing and midwifery, Medical Laboratory Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences programmes lead into an award of Ordinary Diploma.

The institute also offers three years Laboratory Sciences and Technology program which leads to an award of Technician certificate in Laboratory Science and technology (NVA Level II and III).

Also the Institute offers one year (1)  upgrading course (in service programme) in  Nursing and midwifery, Pharmaceutical sciences, and Medical laboratory sciences course both leading to an award of  Ordinary diploma (NTA level 6) under the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE).
